From Moral Crisis to Humanistic Leadership: Announcing the Arete Youth Academy

At Agora Productions, we’ve long asked how film and education can do more than reflect the world. How can they help transform it? This summer, we’re launching the Arete Youth Academy (AYA) to help answer that call. AYA is an 11-month journey for globally curious-minded students (ages 18-26) who study a rich curriculum in philosophy, literature, art, and music, work with a network of humanistic mentors, and travel to historically significant regions for dialogue on the important issues of our time with peers abroad.

The program’s mission is to grow the essential qualities of global citizenship—wisdom, courage, and compassion—so that young people can meet today’s challenges with depth and empathy.  AYA advisors include best-selling philosopher Lou Marinoff, Emerson scholar Sarah Wider, astrobiologist Chandra Wickramasinghe, Gandhi scholar Dr. N. Radhakrishnan, peace researcher Jan Oberg, and intercultural dialogue scholar Axinia Djurova.

To share the students’ journeys more broadly, we’ll produce an annual documentary series chronicling their learning and relationships. Our 20-year goal is ambitious yet clear: help nurture 1,000 “Aristotles”—leaders with intellectual clarity and human depth—prepared to build a more compassionate future.

We’re committed to access. To keep AYA open to students from many economic backgrounds, Agora is covering up to 80% of tuition and travel for each participant and inviting our community to help: donate, share our campaign, or sponsor a student. Check out our new Arete Youth Academy website.
